A waitress has been forced to leave her job after shaving her hair to raise money for a cancer charity.
If that happen in the states they could be sued for discrimination. I am not sure how it is in Canada.
Yeah. Seems like a silly thing to fire someone for.
It's strange because they didn't actually fire her, they laid her off until her hair grew back.
Yes, that is true. So how long do you think that will be? It's got to be a few months...long enough that she probably needs to get another job.
Well I think that it is discrimination after all a balding waiter wouldn't be sacked.........or would he?
Ha! Good point. Double standard?
There are other things about this too - it is as if they employed her for her hair?? She would not have looked untidy and not having hair would not have affected her work performance. If it were me, I would not be going back and I would be looking at unfair dismissal suit.
The World's Greatest Shave is a huge, well-known charity event in Australia. My boss took part in it and shaved his head a few years back. A restaurant pulling this @!$%# here would be savaged in the media.
Great link, Red! What a terrific way to raise money for leukemia.
I lost a friend to leukemia, which was how my boss got involved, we all worked together.
