Fish Detective Busts Restaurant Switcharoos

It has come to this: you'll probably have to run a genetic test on the seafood special to make sure the fish you ordered is the fish you got.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I've always wondered if this kind of thing went on. That's low and frankly I think that's fraud. Restaurants that get caught lying and cheating should get fined.. or shut down. Period. If your going to run a business... run an honest one.

I know that they've been switching grouper in Florida for years. I agree that there should be fines for being dishonest...and for serving endangered fish.

This kind of thing is common in the midwest as well with "Perch" and "Walleye" being some other ocean fish purposely mislabeled to imply Lake Perch and local walleye. I was shocked that 1 out of 15 red snapper samples were some other fish. Wow.

First thanks Lauhal's for your column
I've been trying to bring awareness to the public about the shortage of fish in our ocean's
around the world
The problem of endangered fish and all salt water is only going to get worse.
I've been reading everything I can.To see if anyone is trying to find an answer to this problem
I've got very little knowledge in this area.I feel like a child with a big idea ,not knowing whom to talk to
My idea is ,we must reseed our ocean's We can't depend on nature to replenish it self
If we destroy something we must rebuild it .Just like a burnout building We've only got the foundation left We better move fast or the foundation will be gone
There are 6.7 billion people and counting on this earth They all need feeding
So if anyone knows how a salt water fish farm might be built tell me I've some ideas of my own But there just ideas floating around in my head This should have been in the works 40 years ago

RON

I've heard of this before, probably goes on all the time. Not that it's ethical.
